My Skincare Routine

This beautiful hot weather is the best way to end summer! I could not be happier. The additional glow the sun gives us all, just makes everyone look so great. But without the proper skin care, my skin would be run to the ground with the uck and grossness sweat leaves behind. This post is all about the products I use and my routine. Hopefully, this can help you curate your own skincare routine.

Before I get started I would like to mention that I have dry skin that is prone to blemishes and I do not get acne or spots.

A.M.

In the morning, I like to wash my face with cold water right after waking up. This helps me get my day going and also just rinses off my face. Depending on the state of my skin, I may run my Clarisonic for about a minute. That just helps with getting whatever makeup or dirt that remained, out of my pores. After that, I usually use an oil like coconut oil for my trusted 100% Marula oil. A previously mentioned, I have dry skin and using these oils bring some life back into my face.

*TIP try not to wear a full face of makeup every day, give your skin some time to breathe.

P.M.

At night, I usually start off by taking off my makeup. I recently started using the Garnier Micellar Water and I love it! It is great at taking all the dirt and makeup off. These types of products tend to leave my skin incredibly dry. But with the Micellar Water that is not the case. Some nights I find myself not having to moisturize because the product is great at retaining moisture. I would Screen Shot 2017-09-26 at 7.25.07 PMrarely do this next step on the same night, but I also use African Black Soap to wash my face. If you don’t know about this soap, GET IT NOW. If you are prone to breakouts or if you have oily skin, I highly recommend it. This soap is great for washing and refreshing your face. When I say it cleans your face it cleans it gooood. Every pore, nook and cranny in your face will be clean. This product leaves your face pretty dry though. Make sure to get your favourite moisturizer so your face isn’t left super tight.

 

Weekly 

The following bits are things I do weekly or biweekly. Meaning I don’t do them every day. This is primarily because I don’t like to do too much to my face. Over manipulation can cause your skin to become more sensitive.

  1. Steaming! Steaming is one of my favourite things to do. I usually boil some hot water, pour it into a bowl and sit over it with a towel over my head. The steam allows for your pores to open up and sweat out the dirt.
  2. After I steam, I pick out a mask and leave it on for 10 – 15 minutes. Masks are great for rejuvenating your skin and making your look and feel fresh.
  3.  I tend to exfoliate about once a week. This is because my skin is super sensitive and tends to break out when I exfoliate too much. I either use my Clarisonic or a product with bits of salt or sugar.

*TIP To keep your skin clear and clean, avoid touching your face / letting other people touch your face! This is a major contributor to acne and dirt build up.

And that concludes my basic routine. It is what keeps my skin happy and healthy! I cannot guarantee that it’ll work for you, but feel free to try somethings out and see what your skin likes. Everyone is different but hopefully, we can all live that clear skin life. Best of luck ๐Ÿ™‚
